How long a keratin treatment lasts

Keratin smoothing is semi-permanent. It fades a little with every wash, so the way you wash matters more than anything else.
Most clients rebook when the frizz comes back at the roots.
What makes it fade faster
- washing every day instead of two or three times a week,
- shampoos with sulfates,
- chlorine and salt water, which means pool and beach days in Virginia Beach,
- clarifying shampoos and heavy scrubbing at the roots.
The first 72 hours and aftercare
The first days are when the treatment settles. Until then:
- no washing, and no sweating through a hard workout,
- no ponytails, clips, headbands or tucking hair behind your ears, which can leave dents,
- if your hair gets wet, blow-dry it smooth right away.
After that:
- wash with a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner,
- rinse with fresh water after the pool or the ocean,

What is the downside of a keratin treatment?
It is not permanent, so you will repeat it when it fades. It asks for some changes at home: sulfate-free shampoo, and a few careful days at the start. It also relaxes curls, so if you love your full curl pattern, it may not be for you. And it is not for everyone: I do not recommend it during pregnancy or nursing.
Is a keratin treatment worth the money?
If frizz costs you time every morning, usually yes. Clients report 4 to 5 months of smoother hair, which means faster blow-drys, less heat and fewer bad hair days in the Virginia Beach humidity. If your hair is already smooth most of the year, a Dominican blowout for special days may be the better buy.
Does a keratin treatment change hair color?
